Are you waiting for people to get back to you? Does a co-worker owe you information that you need to move a project forward? Are you waiting for your boss to give you the necessary approval to complete a project or start a new one? Are you waiting to hear from a recruiter or HR director who already knows whether you will get the job or not?

It's frustrating when people promise to get back to us and they do not. Especially in today's uncertain economy, waiting for a return phone call or e-mail can make the difference between being employed or unemployed for another week.

The universe has a pattern. You get what you give. Have you been getting back to everyone you promised you would? If you want people to keep their promises, you need to set the example.

THE WEEKLY ACTION CHALLENGE

Your challenge this week is to keep your promises. Every promise; no matter how big or small.

This challenge will be harder than you think. Although we have good intentions when we make a promise, a part of us knows that we have a way out if we want. Phrases such as "It wasn't my fault," "I was very busy this week," or "I will get to it next week," demonstrates to the other person that your promises do not mean much. So why should they keep their promises to you?

You could say, "What's the big deal?" Or, "Wow, I can't believe I haven't been reliable!" The choice is up to you.

So, what do you say? You only have one life to live, so it might as well be a life you love!
