MONDAY MORNING ACTION TIP #59 |
Previous E-Weekly Tips: |
Do you love what you do or are you going through the motions? Are your favorite four words "Thank God It's Friday?" TGIF means that your approach to your workweek is survival. In survival mode, you feel great for one day-Friday. Saturday is your recovery day, and Sunday evening is spent preparing for survival mode again.
When you focus on surviving the workweek, you do not allow space for creative or inspiring ideas and actions. Inspiration and creativity are not some mysterious qualities that people other than you were born with. Everybody who is inspired or creative has chosen to be that way, and has had to work at it. You can tell yourself that your career is just about paying the bills and on Friday, say "TGIF!" Or, you can strive for inspiration and creativity in your career, and find yourself saying "FASS?" "Friday Already So Soon?"
THE WEEKLY ACTION CHALLENGE
Your challenge this week is to stop surviving your career.
Write down at least three symptoms of your survival mode. For example, making weekend plans on Monday, wasting time online or at the water cooler, completing tasks just to get them done. Each time you detect one of your symptoms, stop yourself. You will see that survival mode consumes a lot of your time. Once you learn to detect, and then stop the symptoms of survival mode, you can create space in your career for the inspiration and creativity that may seem so foreign to you today.
Your attitude can be the difference between loving what you do or dreading the first four days of the workweek. Your career plays an important role in your life. Why survive it when you have to power to make it a passionate and fulfilling experience?
So, what do you say? You only have one life to live, so it might as well be a life you love!
ARE YOU OUT OF WORK OR OVERWORKED?
If you answered YES, then working with a coach may be your best career move.
Many people who have hired me can now say that they are happier in their careers than they ever thought possible.
HERE IS WHAT ONE CLIENT HAD TO SAY:
"I am so happy because I am in control of my career versus being a victim of circumstances." (Lynn Crozier, Vice President of Risk Management, New York, NY)
