Last week, I challenged you to set aside the numerous "tasks" that fill your day, and think about where your career is leading. I asked you to consider how you came to where you are today and what you wanted to create for your future. Your task was to create a bigger picture, because a bigger picture can bring purpose and meaning into your career. It also can motivate you to keep moving through the hard times or moments of doubt. How did you do?

You might have said to yourself during the week that you had no time to complete the challenge. Or, that you needed a process to organize your thoughts beforehand, so when you had time, you could jump right in and get started.

Creativity is not something that occurs on a schedule. Creating your bigger picture is not something that happens just because you have an open slot from 7pm to 7:30pm on Tuesday evening. You may think about your future while sitting at your desk or at the dinner table, while you are watching TV, or having a conversation with a friend or colleague. The trick is to capture these moments of inspiration when they happen, so you can have the information necessary to create your bigger picture when you are ready.

THE WEEKLY ACTION CHALLENGE

Your challenge this week is to capture the bigger picture.

This week carry a small notebook with you wherever you go. If a thought about what you want for your career strikes you, write it down.

Your thoughts could be one word, one sentence, one paragraph, or one page. Length does not matter. What matters is you are creating bits and piece of what you want the whole picture to look like. You are giving yourself the opportunity to capture the moment when the moment strikes rather than on a planned, rigid schedule that you may not follow anyway.

Don't let embarrassment keep you from doing this exercise. If someone asks you what you are doing, it's up to you if you will tell them or not. The goal is to get your bigger picture down on paper so it can drive and motivate you. The world can know today what you are doing, or somewhere down the road. The choice is up to you.

Note: If you are still having trouble defining your big picture, my 21-day career empowerment program can help you create it easily. Please visit career21-day-empowerment.html for more information.

Your career goals are obtainable once you can clearly define what they are. A good process can turn them from concept to reality.

So, what do you say? You only have one life to live, so it might as well be a life you love!

ARE YOU OUT OF WORK OR OVERWORKED?

If you answered YES, then working with a coach may be your best career move.

Many people who have hired me can now say that they are happier in their careers than they ever thought possible.

HERE IS WHAT ONE CLIENT HAD TO SAY:

"Thank you for helping me to steer my career in the direction that made the most sense for me. You provide understanding, motivation, inspiration, and a real sense for what makes a person surpass their dreams." (Allan Katz, President, Katz Innovation Resources, Memphis, TN)
