JAN-JUNE 2002 E-WEEKLY TIPS
2001 E-WEEKLY TIPS

Many people tell me that the job market is awful, and they are right. But I wonder if the awful market is the only reason they are stuck and unhappy in their careers? Maybe the truth is that they worry about taking a chance and possibly failing. And, failure would provide more evidence that they are destined to be unsuccessful forever.

Your preconceived notations can stop you before you begin. Your assessment of how your career is today and will go tomorrow, allow you to play it safe. You don't have to take chances. You don't have to risk failure or rejection. Your career goals can remain at a comfortable distance.

THE WEEKLY ACTION CHALLENGE

Write down the direction in which you wish to take your career. Keep it concise. One sentence.

Find someone you trust, and share your goal. Tell him or her that you want to play a game. You reveal your goal, and the five explanations why you can't reach it. For each explanation, ask your friend to counter it with an alternative positive scenario.

Open the door to a new way of thinking. Let in a different perspective. Face your fears, worries, and explanations. You can do it. Your career goal can become a reality.

So, what do you say? You only have one life to live, so it might as well be a life you love!
