MONDAY MORNING ACTION TIP #38
|
Previous E-Weekly Tips: |
When thinking about your career, do you focus on past mistakes or past accomplishments? Do you find yourself questioning your abilities, or wondering how to apply your experience to a current or future position? You are an accomplished individual who has made a difference in the world. It is time to remind yourself of your successes.
It may also be time to turn around your negative thinking. You can stand by and watch as negative thoughts become negative results, or you can give yourself a fair chance. It's ok to recognize that your career plans might not have worked out precisely as you would have liked, but don't let your disappointments overshadow your accomplishments.
THE WEEKLY ACTION CHALLENGE
Your challenge this week is to write down three things you have accomplished in your career. Next to each one, write down why it was more important that any mistake you made or opportunity you missed.
Your career has gone down the path it has, because it is the path you chose. And, along the way, there are companies and people that will never be the same because of your contribution. When doubts or uncertainty arise, take out your list and remind yourself of your accomplishments. Remember that the world is a better place because of you.
So, what do you say? You only have one life to live, so it might as well be a life you love!

This week winner is Linda Pollet who wrote in to say:
"Last week's tip: Do Something Different (Tip #37), was so simple yet very profound. I was sending resumes until I was blue in the face and was receiving no responses from the companies I was sending them to. I don't know how HR departments can function when they don't even consider offering the courtesy of a letter of acknowledgement let alone a response to an inquiry. So, what did I do differently? I went to them! No appointment, no e-mail, I just went, knocked on the door, introduced myself, explained that I had written, and would hope to at least be able to leave the hard-copy of my résumé for their perusal, and BINGO, I got a interview on the spot with an invitation for a follow-up.
Yes, it was a bit more expensive than a postage stamp! It cost $10 for a round-trip train ticket into the city but at least I got a response! Thank you for your advice!" Linda Pollet
Way to go Linda! Where is there a little bit of Linda in you?
HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
