We expect ourselves to be perfect. Why are we so hard on ourselves? Would we expect perfection from a baby?

What’s the connection? Let’s look at babies. What do they do? They spit on themselves. They fall when they start walking. They make mistakes, they cry, and then they move on. And what do we say when we watch them do these things? “How cute!” Or, “They are still learning and will get it one day.”

But when it comes to our careers, aren’t we still learning too? Just because we have lived a certain number of years does not mean that we are not still young in our careers also.

But still we are hard on ourselves…

THE WEEKLY ACTION CHALLENGE

Babies take small steps and goals are reached in small steps. Your challenge this week is to take a small step towards your goals.

I am a big proponent of taking small steps and I write about them all the time. Look at everything you have accomplished in your career. Did your successes happen in one step or in smaller steps over time? Results do come and you have achievements in your career to prove it. The method stays the same. The amount of steps may change, but the formula stays constant.

It’s ok to still be learning. It keeps your career interesting.

So, what do you say? You only have one life to live, so it might as well be
a life you love!
