I. KEEP MOVING NO MATTER WHAT!

Part I.

What words would you use to describe your career these days? Uncertainty, fear, frustration? All very normal words for our very un-normal times.

Sometimes when we are working very hard in our careers we don't want to keep moving. We are tired, discouraged, and do not believe our actions will make a difference.

Your actions do make a difference. Meaningful career goals are rarely achieved from a one time effort, but from consistent efforts over time. The small steps do matter and are critical to reaching your goals.

So what do you do when you don't feel like moving anymore?

See Part II continued below…

4 WEEKS TO YOUR DREAM JOB!

I have created a CAREER ESCAPE E-PROGRAM for those who want to escape from jobs they hate.

The CAREER ESCAPE PROGRAM was created as of a result of my work with hundreds of clients, many who hated their jobs and felt they were trapped and could not do anything about it. The components in this program are the components I used to walk my clients through their escape. I have captured these steps for those who want to know what they did and how they can apply it to their situation.

Well, there is good news. There are proven tools, strategies, and resources you can use to help you make a decision about what to do next. If you want to get out of your current job, my Career Escape Program can give you the tools to do so.

THE CAREER ESCAPE PROGRAM CAN BE FOUND AT: http://www.career-escape-program.com

II. FIVE STEPS FOR GETTING MOVING AGAIN

Part II.

So How Do You Keep Moving No Matter What? Follow These Steps Below.

1. Acknowledge Your Feelings

Are you worried about your future? Maybe even a bit scared? Don't suppress these feelings. Acknowledge them, work through them, and this is how they will go away. What you resist, persists, so stop resisting your feelings already.

2. Let Go Of Guilt.

Made mistakes in your career? Have a few regrets? Feeling guilty about something that no one around you remembers anymore? Who doesn't have things they would like to do over? We know in our heads that life is filled with lessons, but in our hearts we wish we were not the ones learning them. Mistakes build resilience. And if you are worried that you will make another mistake, you can stop worrying, because you will make other mistakes. It's not what you did, but what you are doing now. Let go of guilt so you can move on.

3. Admit That You Have Stopped Moving.

You cannot start moving again until you admit that you have stopped. Going through the motions does not count as action. Tell the truth. Admit that you have secretly given up. You will feel better and you won't have to hide this information anymore.

4. Get Back Into Action

What do you want in your career? Get it on paper in the form of a goal. Break your goal into steps. Prioritize what needs to get done and get moving. Just because you have not succeeded yet, does not mean you will not succeed this time. The past does not have to determine the future. You can reach your goals simply because you promised yourself you would.

5. Stop Being A Lone Ranger

Life is not about reaching our goals alone. It is about working with others to rise above our individual weaknesses. Asking for help takes courage. The strength to ask is within you. Let people in. Let them help you. Leave your skepticism behind. (It's getting in your way.) Go after what you want with the right people beside you to help.

So, what do you say? You only have one life to live, so it might as well be a life you love!

THIS MONTH: TOP WAYS TO INCREASE A CLIENT'S CONFIDENCE

1. Distinguish between a need to increase self confidence and inadequate self-esteem.

If it's a self-esteem problem, you'll find that your efforts to build confidence will only have a temporary benefit.

2. Keep asking the client what they are learning about themselves.

The better one gets to know themselves, the more natural confidence they'll have!

3. Keep prompting the client to share what they are learning about what they are doing.

The more the client talks about this, the more they'll realize how much they know!

4. Freely share what impresses YOU about what the client is doing or how they are growing.

Keep it straight; no puffery, exaggeration or gooey-ness.

5. Have the client check in often with progress.

Every step matters.

6. Reduce or eliminate expectations.

One's confidence increases quickly when one doesn't expect or need that much
from what they are working on. They have less (ego) to lose.

7. Reduce the risks.

Do what you can to make the project, goal or situation carry less of a threat, risk, consequence or perceived consequence. Don't just help the client reinterpret the risk; literally seek ways to reduce.

8. Focus on the positive, not the problems, fears, reactions.

Confidence is increased when you focus on what's working, not what you're afraid isn't. Steer the client away from the negative stuff.

9. As a coach, have confidence in the client YOURSELF.

If you do, they'll feel it and they'll feel more confident! (But if you don't have confidence in your client, ask your self why -- is it about your ego or is there really a concern here that needs to be shared with the client.)

10. If the client is lacking confidence, ask them to focus their energies on something that comes more easily for them vs. letting them focus on stuff
that frightens them.

Life is too short to be brave or to force self-confidence. If there's fear, there's probably a good reason for it.

This article was written Thomas J. Leonard, deceased, and founder of the coaching profession.
