Welcome to Surpass Your Dreams. The goal of the newsletter and weekly tips is to help you recognize your potential and surpass your dreams. Included are tips for either transitioning into a career you love, excelling in the career you have now, or creating balance in your life.
This is an OPT-IN newsletter and ONLY goes to e-subscribers.
Do you believe that you are having a difficult time in
your career? Do you believe that your career will never
improve? Maybe your beliefs are the enemy, not your
circumstances.
The truth becomes the truth when you hear it or say it
repeatedly over time. At first, it might not have made
sense to you, but since you have heard it again and
again, it became true. Could your career be in better
shape than you think it's in? Could your beliefs be the
reason that you are up at night worrying about what you
will do?
I know that some of you believe there are no jobs out
there, and many of you will angrily write to tell me
why this is true. I know you believe that your company
is not making money and you may be the next one to go
if you don't turn things around. I know you believe
that you have to take a pay cut in order to survive.
But just because you believe it, doesn't make it
accurate. Or, maybe because your believe it, it became
accurate.
I am not saying that changing your thinking will solve
all of your problems, but it is a great place to start.
You still have to do the work and take the actions
necessary to get where you want to go, but at least
you will be headed in the right direction with a good
attitude. Isn't this better than what you are doing to
yourself now?
People ask me how to change their beliefs. The answer
is you just do. You get tired of telling yourself that
you cannot have what you really want. You realize that
if you can say "I CAN'T" then you can just as easily
say "I CAN." If everything in life works out for the
best (and it usually does), then what you are saying
and doing to yourself on a daily basis is a waste of
your precious time and energy. And, it is keeping you
from focusing on the task at hand, which is going after
what you really want to do.
Success really can be that simple. Unless, you don't
like simple. Many people are on a never-ending quest
for answers. Maybe you have them already; you just need
to get out of your own way so you can listen to them.
So, what do you say? You only have one life to live,
so it might as well be a life you love!
II. TOP REASONS NOT TO BELIEVE WHAT YOU SAY
1. "What can be more palpably absurd than the prospect
held out of locomotives traveling twice as fast as
stagecoaches?" ~The Quarterly Review, England, March
1825
2. "The abolishment of pain in surgery is a chimera.
It is absurd to go on seeking it....Knife and pain are
two words in surgery that must forever be associated in
the consciousness of the patient." ~Dr. Alfred Velpeau,
1839, French surgeon
3. "Men might as well project a voyage to the Moon as
attempt to employ steam navigation against the stormy
North Atlantic Ocean." ~Dr. Dionysus Lardner, 1838,
Professor of Natural Philosophy and Astronomy,
University College, London
4. "[W]hen the Paris Exhibition closes electric light
will close with it and no more be heard of." ~Erasmus
Wilson, 1878, Professor at Oxford University
5. "Well informed people know it is impossible to
transmit the voice over wires and that were it possible
to do so, the thing would be of no practical value."
~Editorial in the Boston Post, 1865
6. "Heavier-than-air flying machines are impossible."
~Lord Kelvin, 1895, Britisn mathematician and physicist
7. "While theoretically and technically television may
be feasible, commercially and financially I consider it
an impossibility, a development of which we need waste
little dreaming." ~Lee DeForest, 1926, American radio
pioneer
8. "There is not the slightest indication that [nuclear
energy] will ever be obtainable. It would mean that the
atom would have to be shattered at will." ~Albert
Einstein, 1932
9. "Where a calculator on the ENIAC is equipped with
19,000 vacuum tubes and weighs 30 tons, computers in
the future may have only 1,000 vacuum tubes and perhaps
only weigh 1.5 tons." ~Popular Mechanics, March 1949
10. "I have traveled the length and breadth of this
country and talked with the best people, and I can
assure you that data processing is a fad that won't
last out the year." ~The editor in charge of business
books for Prentice Hall, 1957
